Newcastle is the second eldest city in New South Wales and Australia. Australia was originally founded as a 'Convict Colony', which paved the basis of justice in the present. The NSW Corrective Services is an agency of the Justice Branch of the Department of Attorney General and Justice in the Government of New South Wales that is responsible for the provision of custodial and community-based services as an important element of the criminal justice system in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The services provided include correctional centre custody of remand and sentenced inmates, home detention, parole, pre-sentence reports and advice to courts and releasing authorities, community service orders and other forms of community-based offender supervision. Offenders in custody and those supervised in the community are assessed for relevant interventions to reduce their risks of re-offending. Corrective Services NSW works in partnership with other government and non-government justice and human services agencies in regard to inmates in custody and offenders in the community. Before an inmate can be released, they must provide a residential address to Corrective Services. Due to the 'Privacy Act', these addresses are not made available to or for the public, they are for Protective Services. Court proceedings vary with information, depending on the current case. When taking the stand, the judge asks the victim or witness to identify themselves and their address. Yet, this is not the same matter if the defendant is a convicted sex offender - the law protects their privacy, while society has no idea of what area or location that the predator may be lurking.
